my coat of many colors.

my mom bought me this coat last year for christmas. if i remember correctly she found it at a massive before christmas sale at anthropologie. it's kind of crazy right? i like it, it's right up my alley. but more than that, it's about the fact that my mom picked it out just for me. it's special to me because of that. i get a lot of comments on it, but i think my favorite so far has been from an older gentleman in my office who referred me to a dolly parton song.

ps - wouldn't mind adding this coat to my collection. not one bit.

one of my favorite quotes on marriage and family comes from the family: a proclamation to the world:

i'm grateful i was raised in a home where my parents loved each other and showed it; where the principles of the gospel were lived and taught.

my mom's pumpkin chocolate chip muffins are one of my favored fall facets. october 2008, my senior year of college, consisted of eating one with every meal. when i ran out, i knew it was time for a trip back home. so good.

BEST muffin to eat between september and november

{mother's pumpkin chocolate chip muffins}

1 3/4 cups flour

1/3 cup sugar

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 beaten egg

1/2 cup canned pumpkin

3/4 cup milk

1/3 cup oil

1/2 cup chocolate chips

in a large mixing bowl stir together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. make a well in the center. combine egg, pumpkin, milk, and oil. add egg mixture all at once to flour mixture.

stir just till moistened; batter should be lumpy. stir in chocolate chips. grease muffin cups or line with paper bake cups; fill 2/3 full. bake in a 400 degree oven for 20-25 minutes or till golden. remove from pans; serve warm. makes 10 to 12 muffins.

thursday is supposed to be the best day of the week.

but mine was spent in a waiting room at lds hospital.

how did i keep myself busy you ask?

• read the april issue of real simple twice.
• watched my dad play angry birds and words with friends.
• played one game of word search.
• read a disturbing article on synthetic drugs. 
• stared at others in the waiting room and concocted stories for them and how they got there.
• sung THIS song in my head.
• read rolling stone.
• read vogue {rather, LOOKED at vogue}.
• read "believing christ".
• complained.
• took pictures of the nice water colors on the wall {see below}.
