odds/ends.

odds/ends, coming to you from boresville, usa (work). this might have been the most boring work week of the whole year ... when does that time come in life where you can take the whole summer off for swimming er whatever?

without further ado, a list of what i have spent my time doing this week (since WORK wasn't really an option):

- something i've recently picked up on is podcast-listening, while working. it's like i'm learning AND working. or it's like i'm laughing AND working. or it's like i'm bored of music so podcasts are a good alternative. one that i've bookmarked, baconsale. i started listening to this podcast cause i occasionally see movies with one of the hosts, kent. i continued listening to this podcast cause it's really funny. i find myself quiet-work-laughing quite frequently during listening. to start you off, listen to the disney movie ranking episodes [episode 7: ranking disney part 1 (when you wish upon a tier) and episode 13: ranking disney part 2 (tier as old as time)]. they're silly and have a musical element. win win!

- if i want to feel really productive whilst wasting time, i like looking at our freaking budget. i actually went to byu with these two. aren't they adorable? they always have been. and now they're as cool as ever teaching the internet about finances, living in new york, with two darling children. two posts that i really like and are really worthwhile, why you should invest in a 401k and how to save for a home (probably because these two posts are really applicable to me).

- it's been about a year now since my first spa experience. turns out, i'm addicted now. i'm addicted to expensive 90-minute swedish massages. it's KIND of a problem but not really. it is the most pampering, luxurious past-time, which is SO ME! anyway, i'm heading to st. george today with the family. i thought it most fitting to celebrate my year-mark at the place it all started, st. george day spa. really i just wanted to write about it so i could think about it more, daydream if you will. so yeah, i recommend it.

- i can't explain why i've just now started watching comedians in cars getting coffee (i feel like a failure of a seinfeld fan). but i love it! the jim carrey one is a little weird, jimmy fallon is always the best, fred armisen, always funny, but i think my favorites are the sarah jessica parker and jon stewart episodes. check out the latest with stephen colbert. other shows i'm really into right now are the mind of a chef and the bachelorette, obviously.

- looking at pluto.

i also had to study for my real estate license, go to the dentist (NO CAVITIES!!!), and get my oil changed this week, so it's not all fun and games.

odds/ends.

hello. remember when i said a few weeks ago that i was so super busy? well that ended sometime this week and now i'm as bored as bored could be. but hey! that means i blog!

my week has been full of horror movies, hot chocolate, sweaters and space heaters. <<< my favorite kind of week. i'm looking forward to all that and more this weekend. you should probably follow @amelianmd on twitter because she's been live-tweeting all of our horror movie experiences and she kills me (with laughter). you might also want to visit hatch family chocolates this weekend because they are going through a tough time and could use community support, but mostly because their hot chocolate is outta-this-world delish. what ever you do, have fun while doing it! happy weekend.

(oh, right, here are some things for you to look at:)
- i want!
- "get a manicure" is on my monthly to-do list ...
the grand budapest hotel trailer came out this week. looks good!
- a good reminder.
- pop culture and "four o'clock in the morning".
- been following these kids on facebook. it's thoroughly entertaining to find them on my feed each more. i heart ny.
- ben introduced me to curbed, but mostly i just love 7-11 (oh and temples).
- this "rickman-off" on jimmy fallon made me fall more in love with both jimmy AND benedict cumberbatch.

what i eat at work + some odds + some ends.

if you haven't noticed lately by the absence of posts, i'm lacking inspiration. i guess i'm just in a funk lately of feeling like every day is the same; there is nothing note worthy. I HATE THAT. a dear friend suggested that every time someone asks me "what's new?" or "how's life?" or "are you dating anyone?" i try and think of something that is new, whether that be that something exciting like i bought a new ipad, or something like ... i scraped my knee jumping on the tramp and it has taken like 2 months to heal ...

but neither of those stories are BLOG worthy. let's place all of that aside for now cause today is the first day of a new season, arguably the very best season, and that deserves some recognition.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

my mom and i went to cucina for lunch today. they are on second avenue between q and r streets. my mom and dad have been going there for years, getting their famous curried chicken salad. i'm pretty sure it used to be in a house. they have recently remodeled but the food is as good as always. i MIGHT even say this is one of the best lunch options salt lake has to offer. i'm never disappointed. today i got the torta rustica filled with ham, squash, eggplant, and cheese, with a caprese salad on the side. oh my! that salad. i have ... no words.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

lastly, i just ate at buffalo wild wings and it was way good. i felt really young last night at a 90s band concert. there are like 4 movies i need to see this weekend; monsters university, much ado about nothing, the kings of summer, and the bling ring! my sister gets home in one hundred and sixty one days. i will be in st george in seven days. i will be in st george in seven days. i will be in st george in seven days (sorry, i'm really excited about that one).

happy summer solstice!

odds/ends.

look at this shapely post! it's what's left over from my week.

- bought my swimsuit >>> the chosen one (which was really hard because THIS one was only $35!!! ... and while i was looking for those links i found another!! i'm so conflicted).
- i'm dying, DYING! over these rifle paper co. iphone cases. DYING!
- i can't seem to shake my desire to eat out like every single day this week. currently craving 1) o'falafel chicken shwarma, 2) habit burger onion rings 3) anything at cubby's 4) and last night i think i may have had the best ceasar salad of my existence at pizzeria limone.
- how great are these arrested development posters? may 26th can't come soon enough.
- i too have come to terms with the fact that i am an iceaholic and endorse these suggestions on the best fix.
- salt lake's bike share program opened on monday. now if only the weather would cooperate.
- and another beehive announcement: red butte garden's 2013 outdoor concert series. yessssssss!!!

happy weekend!!

odds/ends.

via emily w. martin.

sorry in advance for the scattered randomy of this post. here's what's been in my head for the past week; the odds and ends of my thoughts:

- halloween halloweek hallomonth is on my mind.
- i have a friend that is celebrating halloween by finding a haunted velvet room in the byu campus library.
- should i be alice of alice in wonderland, tippi hedren of the birds, marie antoinette of ... versaille? or a strong man?
5 ways to relish in fall this weekend and i would like to switch all my white socks out for patterned ones please.
- bought this dress in red yesterday and i cannot wait to wear it. also can't wait to wear this and this and this that i bought last weekend.
- silly halloween comic via kings and cosmics. have i told you about kings and cosmics? this girl is a hilarious writer.
- i think i need this bag.
- i'm like obsessed with buzzfeed right now. their sense of humor is spot on. two of my recent favorites: 15 reasons why the internet was lame in the 90s and 15 underrated perks of living with your parents (for ann).
- all i have been thinking about today is eating at j wong's tonight. eating chinese food in salt lake city; if you like either or both of those things it's right up your alley.
- i'm going to start reading the picture of dorian gray. that's halloweenie right?

i'll send you off with this halloween playlist i made especially for you.

*i recently realized that you can't listen to this unless you have spotify. if you have yet to download spotify, join the online sensation and do it already!

9.21.2012

odds/ends.

hey, happy last day of summer! i'm off to st george to celebrate. and when i get back, get ready to kick off fall in style. be excited.

i thought i'd send you on your way with the odds/ends of my week:
this shirt was made for me.
- i spent my morning laughing my head off at this tumblr dedicated to the new iOS6 maps.
- time came out with their 50 best websites of 2012 (always useful, i found mint last year!); my faves:
1. pottermore - for harry potter fans
2. codecademy - for code learners
3. vocabulary - for people like me that need a better vocabulary cause they never read
4. and let me google that for you - for the google teacher (which is like my second calling in life, or at least here at church headquarters:
old co-worker: "i can't find this in the phone book."
me: "well did you google it?"
old co-worker: "oh! i didn't even think of that!")
- gettin a kick out of the myriad of political skits as of late; especially mitt romney's vlog and this mitt romney ad.
- lastly, here's a preview of the halloween playlist coming to a post near you, october 2012.

love you.

odds/ends: official olympic obsession.

via paulroger.

i'm officially obsessed with the olympics. i can't get enough. something about the unity and pride that comes with cheering for your nation. i think that's it.

this year's game are different for me than they ever have been. i'm not sure if this is because i wasn't around for the 2010 winter games, but man have things changed because of social media! nearly 24/7 coverage on the tube, inspiring images on pinterest & blogs, fans posting on instagram & facebook, and constant updates on twitter keep my intravenous of olympic information flowing.

to add my voice to the love, a special addition of odds/ends, olympic style:
**also check out the olympian housing and this video of aly raisman's parents reacting to her bar routine.
hilarious.

7.13.2012

odds/ends.

as you can probably guess, i haven't been doing much interweb work this week, but my mom basically demanded a post, and i thought i owed it to her for being such a good nurse lately.

i've mostly been watching pixar movies; all that's left is cars 2 {i admit i have been putting this one off}. in addition, i've been:

- reading {not even a joke} james farrell's the peacegiver.
- learning why katie and tom broke up, thanks people.
- reading up on marilyn monroe, then watching her in action.
- making/eating banana smoothies.
- coveting this purse.
- playing ZORBA {you have to click on this one}.
- reading about "being busy".
- ginger beer drinking.
- entertaining guests {thank you from the bottom of my heart to the folks that visited me}.
- barfing, coughing, draining fluids, sleeping, pill-taking, being bored.

those last things were graphic so i thought i put it all into one, for your sake.

have a happy weekend, and don't get heat stroke.

7.06.2012

odds/ends.

if you're reading this you know that i survived my surgery. did you know that 50,000 people die each year in surgery from problems with anesthesia (maybe it's 5,000 ... the internet wasn't too sure on this statistic)?

i've updated my netflix queue so the movies just keep a stremin' in. next up, annie hall and the bicycle thieves.

come visit me! we'll watch ratatouille together and eat jello!

happy weekend!

6.29.2012

odds/ends.

sometimes when i am really bored at work, i read the message boards on imdb. there are some real gems on those message boards ...

there was this one i was reading today about movies that change lives. and it got me to thinking what movies have changed my life?

10 movies that changed my life {in no particular order}:

- north by northwest
in the summer of 1999, a movie theater near my house was showing north by northwest on the big screen. it was my first hitchcock experience. the tension! the love story! changed my life.

- the eternal sunshine of the spotless mind
i remember perfectly the first time i saw this. i had heard great things about it and wanted to check it out for myself, so i got a rental and watched it in my room. as soon as it was over, i immediately started it over again. it was mind blowing. charlie kaufman is a genius. changed my life.

- amelie
this film made me love everything about france; the music, the scenery, the language. it portrays the commonplace of every day life as utopian beauty and made me look at the world in a whole new way. changed my life.

- little miss sunshine
i'll never forget watching that opening scene in the theater for the first time. abigail breslin wearing those big 80s glasses with devotchka playing. beautiful. changed my life.

- toy story
loved this movie when it came out. love it now. will always love it. changed my life.

- the shining
this isn't the first time i've mentioned this movie on my blog. the first time i saw this it scared the wits out of me. and my love for horror movies was born. changed my life.

- into the wild
i think i wrote about this on my blog once too. at the time i saw this film, i felt so in sync with the main character. he just wanted to be self-actualized and i wanted to be self-actualized. changed my life.

- the graduate
my sophomore year of college, my roommate and i had nothing to do on a friday night. we found a vhs of the graduate and popped it in. it is the beautiful combination of music, dialogue, and silence. the pacing and cinematography are perfect. i loved watching benjamin in his lost state. it is just a piece of art. changed my life.

- singing in the rain
we rented this once when i was little, but big enough to understand what was going on. from then on i knew i loved three things: old movies, musicals, and gene kelly tap dancing. changed my life.

-manhattan murder mystery
my first woody allen experience. his humor had me rolling in the aisles and the story is captivating. changed my life.

other than that, here are some things i'm loving as of late.

happy weekend! but mostly happy taylorsville dayzz!

6.22.2012

odds/ends.

welcome weekend!

i'm going to try to not cry this weekend. it tends to happen if i step into paige's room and smell her, or if i hear beyonce and even some times if i find one of her long, dark hairs in my car. a text from our secret mtc spy this afternoon helped a little and brought a smile to my face. i think i'll turn to brave to lift my spirits too. oh, and you know a bike ride always makes me cheerful {gotta start training for this baby}.

have a happy first weekend of summer!

6.15.2012

odds/ends.

maybe it will be in a bed of big, fluffy, marriott pillows that i land.

it's paige's last friday in salt lake; next friday she'll be eating papa john's pizza in the provo mtc. we've gotta send her off right so we're packing our weekend full of continuous express summer items.

it is country fest in south jordan this weekend, which is really no replacement for taylorsville dayzz, but that's all we got. moonrise kingdom comes out today. we will mos def be seeing this at our favorite salt lake city hang out, the broadway. add to that more swimming and biking, hiking and tent sleeping and we'll have ourselves a weekend.

  • you'll never guess what opened today in salt lake. an open air tour bus! i cannot explain how excited i am for this. must go asap!
  • i've been finding all sorts of delicious looking, summer reminding treats lately. yum, yum, yum.
  • in honor or father's day, an article about the irreplaceable dad.
  • anyone traveling to japan soon? wanna grab this for me?

6.08.2012

odds/ends.

i've been busybusybusy with express summer in full swing. monday we visited europe through food and photos with the woods, tuesday was a roman holiday party, italian sodas and all, with stevenannie, wednesday was a visit to the temple and red rock to follow, yesterday we dined with perky, libby, chelsey, adam, and nicholas at cheesecake factory in city creek.

this weekend we plan on fitting in prometheus, a sleep out under the stars, maybe a swim, a bike ride to the first farmers' market of the season! and paige's farewell talk in church. wish her luck!

avoir un bon week-end!

6.01.2012

odds/ends.

image via my work.

paige and i are going on a sister's only! trip this weekend. one last hooray for sisterhood togetherness before the plunge. because paige goes into the mtc june 20th, we have deemed the next three weeks as "express summer", this included things like: going on a hike, sleeping in the backyard, and making lavender ice cream. basically i'm booked!

here's hoping you have a sunny warm first weekend in june.

  • next dinner.
  • i would very much like this ice cream book for the upcoming summer months.
  • i'm head over heels in love with this swimsuit. now for the spare $200 i have laying around ...
  • and the les miserables trailer in case you haven't seen it yet.
  • finally, a song to kick off the weekend.

5.25.2012

odds/ends - all things summer edition.

from our california get-away. more here.

i just can't get over the fact that summer is just a few weeks away! june-august is my very most favoritest time of year. some might say that i'm under the weather until summer rolls around. i don't know that i'll take it that far, but i do love me some summer times

its all that's on my mind
{maybe because in 2 hours i'm driving to st george, where its 90 degrees and already feels like summer}

the odds/ends of my week, summer style.

5.18.2012
